Uvisor.com :: Job Search Engine - Website Development Update

Written by Joe on Thursday, August 25, 2011

Unemployed? Looking For A Job? Try Out Uvisor.com!

Since October 2010, I have been working on a project, Uvisor.com. Uvisor.com is a job search engine with advanced search technology that will show you results based on items in your profile/resume such as skills, work experience, education, and location. This project has helped me learn new web development techniques, tightened my javascripting, advanced my mysql knowledge, pushed my website usability and search engine optimization knowledge, and built on my css and html skills. I have learned a lot to say the least, as I try to do with every endeavor I'm involved with. This article will be part of a series of articles about my expereiences at Uvisor.

October 2010 - Uvisor 1.0

When I first started at Uvisor, I immediately noticed website usability issues that I knew would ensure the website would not be successful. Some of the issues included:

  • Members only based job searching
  • The entire website was javascript and ajax dependent
  • Users using "out dated browsers" were blocked from using the website
  • Navigation was confusing

Website Usability Was My First Concern

In order for a website to be successful it must be accessible and work properly in all browsers. I expressed my concerns to management and they agreed that this an issue and needed to be dealt with. And Uvisor 2.0 was born.

Uvisor 2.0 :: The New & Improved, User Friendly Job Search Engine

Uvisor 2.0 features a job search accessible to all visitors. We have opened the website up so that no browsers are blocked and dramatically reduced the websites dependency on javascript. Uvisor.com is now much more user friendly and easy to use.
