In my opinion paid advertising is a waste of money. While you will see a traffic spike, as soon as you stop your advertising campaign, that traffic is gone. This article will explain some cheaper/free and more effective methods to increase traffic and your web presence.

Email marketing

Email marketing still has the highest return on investment(ROI) compared to any other marketing outlet. If you are going to spend money on marketing, this is the best way to go. Work on building your email list by offering a free download or a free service. Give your users something for signing up.

Organic search engine optimization

Organic search engine optimization means gaining traffic to your website through optimizing your content for search engines. This includes analyzing keyword density, optimizing page titles and meta tags, and adding links and calls to action to your content. Organic search engine optimization is by far the best free method to gain more traffic and increase your web presence.

Social media marketing

Facebook, twitter, linkedin, myspace, etc.; all 100% free and used by millions of people daily. Why not take advantage of that? Find what social networking sites your customers are using and get on it. Create a community feeling for your customers. Don't just create a page and think that's all you need to do. Interact with your customers, give them something to look forward to.

Word of mouth

Tell everyone about your products and services. All of your friends, family, neighbors, etc., who ever you know. The more people that know about you and your products the better. I have gotten many referrals just by mentioning my business to friends. Let people know about what you do, they might know someone who needs your services.
