Quality Means More Than Quantity

Your website can be on page 1 of Google, Yahoo, and Bing. You can have 1000 followers on Twitter and 1000 fans on your Facebook page. You can get 5,000 hits a month to your website. But does this really matter if you aren't making any sales? It doesn't matter at all. The bottom line is always trying to convert a visitor into a customer. If you are getting tons of traffic but still no sales, you are getting the wrong traffic.

What Is High Quality Traffic?

High quality traffic refers to visitors that come to your website looking to become customers. Low quality traffic includes any traffic that comes to your website with no intent of taking the next step. Here are 3 aspects to help you define your traffic.

1. Buyers Intent

Do your visitors have interest in purchasing your product or service or are they just "browsing"? The higher quality traffic you get, the more buyers and less browsers you will see.

2. Demographic Match

Is this traffic your actual target audience? Is your target audience the right target for your industry? Think outside the box and really try to understand your business from a customers perspective.

3. Cost Effectiveness

Will this traffic reach my cost per action goals? Can I convert them from a visitor to a customer? If you are paying for marketing, you want to see a return on your investment. If you aren't, you need to adjust your website marketing efforts to find what works.

How To Measure The Quality Of Your Traffic

Google offers a wide variety of tools for learning about the traffic on your website. The most popular is Google Analytics. It is free and offers a ton of great tools for learning about your visitors. Other analytical tools include Goolge Webmaster Tools, Google AdWords Keyword Tool and Google Website Optimizer. All of them are free and great for learning about your traffic.
