You don't need to be afraid of search engine optimization, it's not that difficult
Search engine optimization is not that difficult of a task, and you can accomplish a lot in just a few hours. SEO is all about understanding your customers and your market, and optimizing your content for your customers. If you have thousands of pages, this may take some time, but it can be done. With a little research and patience you can optimize your content for search engines with ease. The following 5 search engine optimization tips are some simple techniques to help you optimize your content for search engines and your users.
1. Add heading tags, <h1>, <h2>, <h3>, etc., to your content
Heading tags are used to display the topic of the content you are about to read. It is important in structuring your documents because it gives users and search engines the ability to quickly scan your content and know the content. Users can use heading tags to scan your content and get the information they need with out the hassle of searching. Even if heading tags didn't do anything as far as search engine optimization is concerned, they will help your customers find what they are looking for.
2. Use optimized title tags
The <title> element of your website is used to display your web page title in the top of the browser. You can find the <title> tag on your website by looking in the <head> section of your html/xhtml page. The title tag is used to tell the user and search engines exactly what is on the web page. Titles tags are usually formatted with the brand name first and your keywords after like this: "Brand Name | Primary Keyword | Secondary Keyword". Including your keywords in the title tag will help search engine spiders understand your content. The title tag is also used by search engines to link to your website.
3. Use simple text formatting, bold, underline, italics
I feel this is a commonly over looked item in search engine optimization. And even if it didn't matter for search engines, text formatting gives your users a way to scan through your content and pick out important items they want to read about.
4. Meta keywords & descriptions
Many search engine optimization experts consider meta tags to be dead, and for the most part they are. However, most of the same experts that say meta tags are dead still continue to use them. As far as I am concerned, nothing is dead and never will be. There are hundreds of thousands of search engines and directories out there. To say that meta tags are invaluable to all of them is unrealistic. The value might not be as high as it was, but there is still value in meta tags. Some search engines and directories will use your meta description as preview text for your website, do you want the description of your website to be ""? I know I don't.
5. Content, content, content
Content is king, and will remain king for a long time. The advancement of search engine technology has lead to huge changes in search engine optimization techniques. Search engines now look for relevant content about the keywords searched on. This is why understanding your market and customers is so important. If you have what they need on your website, they will visit and possible become a long lasting customer.
These 5 simple tips will help you in your search engine optimization tasks. A professional freelance search engine optimization experrt can help you research your market, customers, and keywords to determine the most useful keywords for your business.
