Users expect a certain experience from your website, and it's you're job to give it to them
With the growth of technology and the internet, more users have more experience on the internet. More experienced users expect certain functionality from your website and if you're not giving them what they want, they'll leave. Here are a few tips to help you ensure you aren't turning visitors away.
Cross-browser compatibility
Browsers have gotten much better over the past 5 years and are becoming more and more standard compliant, however, browser testing is still a must. Ensuring you're website functions in multiple browsers and browser versions is essential to a successful website.
Show how you're different
How are you different from the next guy selling the same service or product? What makes you better? Why should I choose you over them? Be sure to answer these questions with your website content. Establish what exactly makes you better or different from the crowd.
Convey your message
Build your brand. Have a theme that conveys how you want people to feel and think of you when they visit your website for the first time. This has become increasingly important with the growth of technology. Use your website to show a little more depth about you and your company.
Easy to navigate
This is a must. Users expect to be able to easily navigate through your content to find what they need. Utilizing CSS and HTML you can create a great navigation system. Try to stay away from navigation the uses images, relies on JavaScript, or flash. Not all users have these plug-ins installed and will not be able to use your website at all. Website usability 101.
Effective calls to action
Use effective calls to action to guide your users towards the end result that you are looking for. Whether it is getting a sales lead or selling a product, use effective calls to action to guide the user to do exactly what you want them to.
Content readability
Make sure you use proper grammar, spelling, and your text is easy to see. Everyone's monitor and computer settings are different. Try to get others opinions or use others computers to see how your website design looks in different circumstances. You would be surprised what you find.
